"I am trying to work on a project remotely. It appears my ingested Canon C300 clips are on our other Mac in our office so are offline in FCP X. I have my laptop with me with the backup files on a drive with full structure but I can't work out how to import the C300 mxf clips into FCP X. Through some searches on Google I figured out that I need to install Canon XF Utilities which I did but still my FCP won't recognize these files.
I checked out the clips in the Canon XF utility... It lists them but says they cannot be read. When I look at the card using the finder, all of the data structures seem intact and the MXF file seem to be the appropriate size.
How can I get these seemingly corrupt C300 files to import into FCP properly? Any help will be appreciated...."
You can try a couple of different things when Canon XF utility can not read C300 mxf clips.
Firstly, OUTSIDE of the Canon utility and FCP, try converting the MXF files to ProRes or whatever. There are several utilities that do this, although I know we have used the best MXF to FCP converter from Pavtube before and it works well. That might result in files you can use. Below is a guide on how to convert Canon MXF to FCP.
Step 1: Run Pavtube MXF Converter and click "Add Video" button to import source .mxf files. You are allowed to load .MXF clips to Pavtube MXF Converter for Mac directly from your camera folder or a folder archived on your computer's HDD. If you want to load multiple .mxf files to convert for FCP X at a time, just drag and drop the entire folder into the Mac MXF Converter software.
Step 2: Select Apple ProRes 422 MOV as target format. Click format menu and select "Apple ProRess 422 (*.mov)" as output format beneath the "Final Cut Pro" profile.
Step 3: Convert C300 MXF files for FCP. Click the big button Convert to start transcoding MXF files to MOV for FCP X. When the conversion is completed, click "Open" button to get the converted Apple ProRes 422 MOV files for editing with Final Cut Pro.

Secondly, other than converting XF clips to Apple ProRes codec, you can try using the backed-up MXF files directly in an NLE platform that can read them directly instead of FCP. Fortunately what we use Adobe Premiere CS6 can use native MXF files right on the timeline without any conversion or processing at all, so if you can get access to CS6 try that and you might get lucky.
