Q: “When I opened FCP 7 on Mac, the XAVC recording from Sony PDW-HD1550 cannot be recognized. Can Final Cut Pro support XAVC files?”

I've seen this asked in various places however nobody from Apple has addressed the issue. Sony PDW-HD1550, a half-rack-size disc recorder which supports recording MPEG HD422 and XAVC Intra HD format. When users got some XAVC files, most of them would like to import these XAVC recording from Sony PDW-HD1550 into FCP 7/X or other editing programs for further editing. But the problem is, the latest high definition XAVC video format introduced by Sony is not supported well by Final Cut Pro. To import Sony PDW-HD1550 XAVC to Final Cut Pro X or FCP 6/7 for editing smoothly, the easy workaround is to rewrap and convert XAVC to Apple ProRes, which ensures maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Final Cut Pro.
